The Social Media Network Facebook

If you look back at the beginning of the Internet you notice that it has changed a lot since then. Back in the days single users provided the bulk of the information with little to no option to interact with those information. Feedback or comments were usually submitted by email or in web forums but never directly on the page the information was presented on.

Then entered modern computers and fast internet connections. Social Networking sites arose which allowed users to directly comment to each other, send pictures, videos and messages. This eliminated the need for each user to learn massive amounts of coding simply to create a basic webpage. Despite the variety of modern social networking sites offered, very few have managed to capture such a broad audience as Facebook.

Every user can make an account at Facebook which can then be found by other Facebook users. It is possible to receive friend requests and send them out as well. You are then actively taking part in the virtual life of your friends by receiving status updates, pictures, links and other information that they post or receive. This makes it easy to keep up with the life of friends that you do not visit or meet every day.

On Facebook you can change how people can search from you – even changing the settings so that no one could find you, which is the most secure way to prevent those who you do not wish to see your Facebook from seeing it. Of course, this still allows you to search for others yourself. There are various other security settings that make Facebook one of the most safe social networking sites.

Many users like Facebook as it makes it more than easy to post messages and to upload videos and photos to the web service. Others enjoy the various applications and games that are provided by Facebook and third party developers. These often make use of social networking features as well. It is for example possible to invite friends to play games, share high-scores or to send them messages if you beat their highscore. Games range from Tetris over Scrable to Mafia Wars.

Facebook also has many quizzes that you can take, about a variety of subjects ranging from ‘Which of the Seven Dwarfs are You?’ to ‘What Political Party most Suits You?’. The quizzes are made by the users, so there’s almost an infinite variety to choose from! As with the games, you can send your results to all of your friends if you so choose. You could even invite them to take the quiz, and compare your results with all of your friends.
