Who Should Win the NL Cy Young Award?

The 2009 National League Cy Young race is an interesting situation. There are at least two pitchers who make definitive cases for the coveted award, and choosing the winner will be a difficult decision for those forced to vote.

There were some exceptional pitching performances in the National League in 2009. It can be argued that at least 4 or 5 pitchers would have won it hands down in seasons past had they had these seasons then. Some of the best pitchers this past season included the likes of Adam Wainwright, Jair Jurrjens, Clayton Kershaw, and Matt Cain. Not to mention many others.

However, Tim Lincecum and Chris Carpenter both stole the show. Pitching their respective teams to winning records, both of these pitchers had some of the best pitching seasons in recent memory.

Looking at the stats doesn’t tell the whole story with either of these pitchers. That’s perhaps what makes this race even more difficult to call, as if it wasn’t already hard enough. It’s almost painful to deny either of these incredible pitchers of an award they deserve. Maybe they’ll somehow tie for the award.

As for Tim Lincecum, the Giants are once again a winning baseball team, thanks largely in part to his reliable presence as the team’s ace. He struck out more batters than anyone in the National League, had a handful of complete games, and the second best ERA in the National League.

How about Carpenter though? Having missed two seasons in a row, he came back and was better than ever. With an NL best 2.24 earned run average, and NL best 1.01 WHIP, and a 17-4 win-loss record, Carpenter was as good as it gets.

As for who will win this race, all bets are off. Voters will probably be required to vote based on the surrounding details rather than the stats themselves. After all, the stats themselves would lead someone to mull this over all day.

An Explanation To Casino Bonuses

Online casinos are very popular and that popularity keeps rising. People are flocking to the convenience and excitement of online gaming. Even with all that business online casinos are plentiful, so competition is fierce. Online casinos have to find ways to get people to come play at their casino. Many use casino promotions or casino special offers to bring in customers.

How Special Offers and Promotions Work

These casino special offers can be a boon to gamers and casinos alike. The casinos are happy to get new players’ business and of course, gamers are thrilled with the free games, sign up bonuses, extra winnings and other casino promotions that they benefit from.

Casino special offers vary from one online casino to the next, as do the terms and conditions of these offers. Gamers should always read the terms and conditions in their entirety to make sure that they fully understand the conditions of these promotional offers. Not all of these promotions are what they seem – and the last thing you want is to enter some sort of agreement which benefits only the casino.

Types of Casino Special Offers

You’ll see a wide variety of different online casino promotions out there, but the ones which follow are the most commonly used by casinos in the effort to retain existing players and attract new business.

- Sign up bonus: This bonus is given to new players when they sign up with a casino. It averages around $100, but the amount can vary from casino to casino. You usually are not given the whole bonus amount upfront, but rather over the course of a few months.

Percentage bonus: With these bonuses, the casino will match a percentage of your deposits. Many promotions have percentage bonuses between 50% and 500%. There is usually a limit on how much the casino will match, so make sure to read the fine print.

Matching bonus: These bonuses involve matching your deposit dollar for dollar; there is typically a limit on how much the casino will match with these bonuses as well.

- Reload offer: This offer is for players who are already signed up. It is where the casino gives money to the player to keep their account open.

Preferred deposit: This casino promotion offers some sort of incentive (usually a matching bonus) to gamers who use the casino’s preferred type of payment.

- Loyalty rewards: This is an offer made to players who have been with the same casino for a specified time; this is usually a bonus of some sort, though the exact type of reward varies.

High roller rewards: High roller rewards are usually percentage or matching bonuses given to players who make deposits of a certain size or higher. The exact type of reward may vary from online casino to online casino.

These are just a few of the more common casino special offers and casino promotions you may find online – there are many others which you’ll come across when looking into different online casinos. Casino special offers are intended to get the interest of players and there are many of these promotions which represent a good deal to players. Just make sure to read the terms and conditions carefully to make sure that what sounds like a great value actually is before you commit to anything.

What is Golf?

Golf is a game that has been played several hundred years now. It can be enjoyable, frustrating, and exciting all at the same time. Most beginners will appreciate learning new ways to enhance their play.

Golf play starts with hitting a small ball off the tee onto the fairway. One attempts to hit the ball onto the green and then into the cup or hole. Some courses are 9 holes, some are’ holes or more. Some courses are designed to be walked and some are more easily played when one uses a golf cart.

The point of the game is to put the ball into the cup with the least amount of strokes. The person who hits least, wins. Rules must be observed during play and getting to know them can be to your advantage. Etiquette plays a part also, so familiarity with basic etiquette is a good idea too.

Golf originated in Scotland in the eighteen hundreds. It was played with clubs carved from wood and a leather ball filled with feathers. Usually it was played in rabbit paths. Golf spread around the world by the eighteen hundreds. Now many schools, organizations and clubs participate in the game. Beginners have as much fun playing the game as someone who has played for years.

Many people are getting interested in the game now. It’s a great game that is fun and relaxing to play. When you play golf, the rest of the world seems to disappear. Anyone can play, no matter what type of golf you play.

Young people are getting in on the game too. They can play when in school or out of school. Schools are now including golf as a sport the kids can take up. Kids usually start golf habits in high school and continue them throughout their lives. Golf can be slow sometimes for a teenager, however, if they stick with it, it can be rewarding.

Executives play golf too. Many times they use the time out of the office on the greens to make business contacts or make deals. Sometimes busy executives use time on the golf course to serve double duty, recreation and communication with business associates. Some executives even conduct business exclusively on the course.

Golf is a many faceted game that people of all ages can play and enjoy. Families, friends, and business associates can get in on the fun. As you learn, putting together the proper accessories for you game can become an involving hobby also.

The 5 Most Important’80s Tennis Legends

The’80s were a great decade for tennis. A long decade that saw the face of the sport change.

This brief article will focus on my favorite 5 tennis players from the’80s. These aren’t ordered by who was best, simply by my favorites. I hope you enjoy it!

The early’80s were dominated by Bjorn Borg before his early retirement. At the top of his game, he was undoubtedly the best in the world and one of the best to ever play the sport.

When I think of great net players, Stefan Edberg is one of the first names to come to mind. His serve and volley approach was simplistic in nature, but dominant enough to propel him to the world’s number one ranking in the later part of the decade.

Boris Becker. Ah, the jump serve. Becker popularized this method of serving in the’80s, and just about everyone I knew tried to emulate it in their own way. Becker was a true warrior on the tennis court, and I’m a big fan of what he did for the sport.

Ivan Lendl. One of the most under-appreciated players in tennis history, in my mind. Lendl anchored the number one spot in the world for years, a streak that often goes overlooked. He was simply a machine, and one of the best.

John McEnroe is one of those players who comes along once in a lifetime. Forget about his arguments with the chair umpires, as great as those were. He was one of the best in the sport for well over a decade and he can surprisingly still play really well today.

When I think of tennis in the’80s, I think of the five players mentioned above. All made significant contributions to the sport that still have a lasting effect to this day.
